Congratulations & TED2018 | National Crown Jewel Awardee Vanessa Garrison

Drum roll please! Please help us congratulate Wonder of Women International's 2018 National Crown Jewel Awardee, Vanessa Garrison.

Vanessa is recognized for being a passionate advocate of social justice issues and focusing her work on improving health outcomes and quality of life for Black women and girls. Garrison is Co-founder of GirlTrek, the largest National Public Health Organization for black women and girls.

“The National Crown Jewel Award acknowledges a fierce woman who embodies Wonder of Women's (WOW) mission: Inspiring women and girls of color to find their voice, stand in their truth and celebrate their wonder by telling their story,”- Veronica Very, Founder & Visionary of WOW. A GirlTreker herself, Very confirms, “Vanessa does her life’s work with truth, intention and passion. She has a genuine love for SISTAhood with action to back it up."

GirlTrek is on the move. Affectionately introduced by Oprah Winfrey, Garrison and her co-founding partner in GirlTrek, T. Morgan Dixon recently returned to TED2018 to speak on their audacious plan to launch an exciting campaign tour called the Road to Selma. This fabulous 50 city tour aims to activate 10,000 organizers who will mobilize 1 million Black women and girls for healing and better health across the nation. This bold project will culminate in what they're calling a "Woodstock of healing" at an event called Summer of Selma. Activism, exercise and storytelling are atop the agenda.

As the first recipient of the National Crown Jewel Award, We proudly recognize and support Vanessa's work in professing the healing and celebration of good health has a commanding voice for Black women and girls.
