4 Steps to Rise Above the "Noise"

As a recovering comparison addict I am confronted with shutting down the "noise" of negative self talk in my head that tells me I am not good enough. This noise can be triggered by social media, magazines, the television and people. While we may not be able to control these noises we can definitely limit their distracting powers by not allowing them to keep us in a constant state of comparing that keeps us from embracing our uniqueness and boldly being who we were created to be.

It is imperative to do the self-work necessary to overcome secret jealousy, envy, insecurity and shame. When comparing makes a paradigm shift to celebrating, collaborating and learning from those you admire--- great things can happen! These four steps will help you rise above the noise to soar freely in your brilliance and the brilliance of others:

1. Get Quiet

Each day set aside time to steal away, turn off the TV, unplug the phone and step away from the computer. It can be as short as 15 minutes but commit to shutting out everything and everyone and tuning in so that you can receive divine downloads that will not only give you instructions but will also encourage and strengthen you for the day. Spend this quiet time simply listening.

2. Shut up negative self-talk

Often negative self-talk comes from a limiting belief that was created out of a painful or traumatic experience. To shut this up we must create a new more empowering belief. Each time your inner voice begins to discourage or distract you by saying you aren’t good enough, you’re unworthy and undeserving respond with powerful I AM statements such as I am beautiful, I am loved, I am enough and I am worthy. The more you do this the less negative self-talk will fill your mind.

3. Ignore other’s opinions of you

With the rise of social media everyone seems to have an opinion, some of which can be hateful and hurtful and if we aren’t careful we will filter ourselves and our message to appease others. Make it a practice not to consider the number of “likes” and “comments” as approval. If you need an opinion, ask someone who you believe in who believes in you and your work.

4. Be your authentic self

One sure way to ignore the noise of others is to be comfortable with who you are and the unique gifts and talents that make up who you are. If we allow the noise of others to affect who we are we no longer authentic and essentially we become a carbon copy. This only leads to frustration and dissatisfaction. Embrace the fact that there is no one on the planet like you and it’s ok to be different.
